3 Injured in Enumclaw Crash | Enumclaw Distracted Driving Accident Attorney
via Premier Law Group by jason on 11/24/11
As a Seattle distracted driving accident attorney, I know that what we think of as a routine part of our day can often become something much more, especially if we lose concentration on what we are doing. On Tuesday morning in Enumclaw, a three-car accident on State Route 164 resulted in three people getting injured, one of them seriously according to komonews.com. A minivan that had crossed the center line sideswiped an oncoming car before hitting another car head-on. The driver of the minivan was taken to a hospital in the area, while the drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Although the cause of the accident has not been determined, whenever a driver crosses the center line it seems likely that there was some driver distraction involved.
Of the more than 30,000 annual fatal car accidents in the United States, a significant number of them are caused by driver distraction. Inn nearly 1000 of those crashes, someone involved was reported to have been using a cell phone and over 5000 of them involved reports of distracted driving according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). Distracted driving is a serious problem, but I think sometimes we don't think enough about what it really is in order to eliminate the problem. USDOT reports three different types of driver distraction: manual, visual, and cognitive. Manual means talking your hands of the wheel. Visual distraction means taking your eyes off the road. Cognitive distraction means losing concentration, or taking your mind off of what you are doing. The most dangerous distraction is one that involves all three of these things: texting, rummaging through a briefcase on the passenger seat, disciplining children in the back seat, and many others. These activities distract a driver so thoroughly that accidents become much more likely.
